U.S. President Donald Trump visits his private residence in Florida most weekends, often conducting business of a sensitive nature there. Democrats question the effectiveness of security and why U.S. tax payers should foot the alleged $3 million bill for each visit. Also, the cost of protecting first lady Melania Trump and the Trumps' young son, Barron, at Trump Tower in New York costs $145,000 a day. The Washington Post estimates that if Trump heads to Mar-a-Lago for four out of every nine weekends, and Melania remains in New York, the taxpayer will pay around $526 million over Trump's four-year presidency. If these estimates are correct, he could have funded the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness — budgeted at $4 million in 2016 — for over 100 years if he'd just stayed in the White House.
