Greek President Procopius Pavlopoulos has stressed the important role being played by Saudi Arabia in promoting stability in the region and fighting terrorism at all levels. In an interview with Al-Riyadh Arabic newspaper, sister publication of Riyadh Daily, during his recent visit to Saudi Arabia, the Greek President said that his country rejects interference in the internal affairs of other states as is being done by some countries. He said that Saudi Arabia is an important trade and economic partner to Greece, particularly in the field of energy. Describing the relations between Athens and Riyadh as excellent, he commended the Joint Ministerial Committee and its efforts in boosting cooperation between the two countries. President Pavlopoulos said the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030 had encouraged him to visit Riyadh to launch a new era of cooperation between the Kingdom on one side and Greece and the EU on the other. Commenting on Greek-Saudi relations, President Pavlopoulos said the two countries have a long history of cooperation, which is why Athens is looking forward to a better future on all fronts. He praised the efforts of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz in boosting this cooperation which is encouraging both sides to look for new opportunities. He pointed out to the strong prospects for cooperation with the Kingdom in the energy field, especially renewable energy. In this regard, the Greek President pointed out to the signing of two draft memoranda of understanding for cooperation in the scientific, technical and cyberspace domains.
