US-Iranian relations are steadily shifting from peace mode to confrontation, especially after Donald Trump assuming office. The new administration has clearly indicated that Iran will not be treated with kid gloves as did Barack Obama, who had conceded much to Tehran in the nuclear deal. America responded to Iran's provocative missile tests with tough words. But Iran adopted an even more confrontational stance by arrogantly swearing at Washington. Following the US curbs on Iranian nationals, along with citizens from six other countries, Iran banned an American wrestling team from entering the country. The bar on the wrestlers was soon lifted on the pretext that the US had withdrawn its own ban. However, it is evident that Iran pulled back from the row due to the severe warning it received from the highest authority in Washington. It now faces new sanctions for which it has itself to blame. There is no doubt that the rules of game have changed. The Tehran regime will not be allowed to blatantly interfere in the internal affairs of other countries in the region. It has already done enough damage by sparking sectarian conflicts in one of the most important regions of the world. Iranian arrogance must be curbed whether through diplomatic or military means. The upcoming days are expected to see a flurry of activity to make Iran behave. It is time that the Iranians see the writings on the wall and change its obstinate stance. What held well yesterday is not likely to hold good today and tomorrow.
