The new Riyadh-Qassim train service is scheduled to begin operations end of this month, Dr. Remeih Al-Remeih, Chief of the Public Transport Authority, revealed here today. Dr. Al-Remeih, who is also the Supervisor of the Saudi Railway Company (SAR), said that promotional, fixed fares will be introduced for the first two months, making them easily affordable. They will only cover the cost of operations, he said. The Riyadh-Qassim train will be a daily service in its first phase, with one halt in Al-Majmaah in its two-hour journey. Dr. Al-Remeih said that the institute of the Saudi Railways Organization has graduated its first batch of train drivers and control and signal technicians. The Organization has succeeded in nationalizing 97 percent of its workforce, he noted. He pointed out that SAR had completed a project linking Waad Alshamal city to its North-South Railway, which connects the northern and eastern provinces with Riyadh. It had also conducted initial trials on transporting molten sulphur from Saudi Aramco facilities to Maaden projects.
