South Korean prosecutors questioned Samsung chief Lee Jae Yong on Thursday as part of their investigations into a political corruption scandal which has led to the impeachment of President Park Geun Hye. Lee, the vice president of smartphone market leader Samsung Electronics, apologized on his arrival at the prosecutor's office in Seoul, saying Samsung had not shown "a positive image," according to South Korean broadcasters. Lee, who is considered de facto boss of the entire Samsung Group conglomerate, was summoned on suspicion of bribery. Samsung are accused of making donations to several non-profit foundations operated by Choi Soon Sil, a confidante of President Park, in exchange for Park's support for a controversial merger. Park, South Korea's first female president, is facing charges of corruption, abuse of power and violating constitutional duties in an impeachment trial which began earlier this month.
