The Olympic medallist failed in her pursuit to recapture the women's bantamweight title in spectacular fashion. Rousey, 12-2, suffered a first-round KO loss to Brazilian wrecking machine Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 207, the final show of an action-packed 2016. Nunes started the round at a ferocious pace and tagged the former champion with huge shots early on. Rousey was visibly dazed and began retreating in a desperate attempt to regain her wits. Nunes didn't give the 29-year-old any rest bite and swarmed on her, unleashing a barrage of vicious haymakers. Rousey couldn't defend herself in any way, and her failure to do so prompted referee Herb Dean to jump in and stop the fight. Nunes was absolutely thrilled with her night's work and expressed her delight in her post-fight interview. "This is amazing," she said. "This moment is my moment. Like I said, she had her time, she did a lot for the sport. "Thank you Ronda Rousey. But right now, I'm the champion and I'm here to stay. "People, let's stop this Ronda Rousey nonsense, ok! I'm the champion, Amanda Nunes. The Lioness!" A fired up Nunes then told the fans in attendance at the T-Mobile Arena to forget about Rousey and focus on the new up-and-comers in the division. "I trained for this girl since my first fight in the UFC, I knew this was going to happen," she continued. "And tonight, I proved to everybody I'm the best on the planet. Come on guys, you serious? "Now she's going to retire and she's going to go do movies, she already has a lot of money. In this division, we have a lot of talent. "And now you guys have to look at these girls who are working hard and forget about Ronda Rousey."
