A pensioner has given birth to a baby boy in China, making her the oldest mum in the country's history. The 64-year-old delivered a healthy baby boy weighing 8.16 lbs after undergoing IVF treatment. Despite the high chance of miscarriage the unnamed new mum and her husband took the risk after the loss of their first child in a car accident. The miracle baby was born by C-section after what doctors described as a stressful pregnancy. Her advanced age led to a heavy physical and psychological impact, her obstetrician Teng Hong said. But he revealed that she remained positive during her labour at the Second Hospital of Jilin University in Changchun City. The mum and child are reported to be in good health since the record-breaking delivery. Up until the birth the couple were among one million families in China classified as "shidu" — which means to have "lost an only child." China's shindu couples are a major epidemic due to the country's strict one child policy which was only abolished in 2015. It has meant many couples senior couples who lost their only child will have no one to care for them in old age.
