An Egyptian court on Saturday sentenced former president Hosny Mubarak to three years in prison in a retrial on charges of corruption, according to dpa. The Criminal Court also gave a similar sentence to each of his two sons, Alaa and Gamal, and ordered the three to pay a fine of 125 million Egyptian pounds (16.4 million dollars). The case is linked to charges that Mubarak and his two sons spent more than 100 million Egyptian pounds of state money on their private residences. The three appeared inside a defendants' cage as the chief judge delivered the verdict in a televised session. It was not immediately clear if the ruling can be appealed. Mubarak, who ruled Egypt for nearly 30 years until a popular revolution forced him from power in 2011, received a three year sentence on the charges last year, with his sons jailed for four years each. In January, the country's top appeals court overturned the sentences and ordered a retrial. Mubarak, 87, is staying in a Cairo military hospital. In November, another court dismissed charges against Mubarak over the killing of demonstrators during the 2011 uprising. Next month, the top appeals court is to rule on an appeal filed against the verdict.
