Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has received a letter from Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf on the depth of bilateral relations and his keenness on ensuring their continuity. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques also received a message from Sweden's Prime Minister Stefan Lofven in which he expressed deep sorrow and regret over the current crisis in the relations between the two countries, stressing the keenness of his government to maintain the relations between the two countries. The Prime Minister also said in his letter that the role of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in protecting Islam and its holy places is clear, stressing that his government is concerned over the crisis in the relations between the two countries and is looking forward to welcoming the return of the Saudi Ambassador to Stockholm in addition to beginning work to enhance the relations between the two countries according to a dialogue that is based on mutual respect. The letters were handed over by Baron Bjorn von Sydow, former Swedish Defense Minister and Special Envoy of the Kingdom of Sweden, during a meeting with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques at Al-Oja Palace at Dir'iya yesterday evening. During the meeting, the Swedish Special Envoy conveyed the greetings of Sweden's King to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques as well as the apology of Sweden's Prime Minister for the offensive remarks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. For his part, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques sent his greetings to Sweden's King and Prime Minister. The audience was attended by Prince Mohammed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Crown Prince, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior; Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defense, President of Royal Court and Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques; and a number of officials.
