It is in the Fatah and Hamas movements that we see a confirmation of the legend of King Solomon, who ordered to cut a child into two equal parts in order to know which of the two women – who both pretended to be the child's mother – was actually the real mother. According to the legend, the fake mother immediately accepted King Solomon's order to cut the child while the real mother refused the order as she did not wish to see her child perish; in other words, she gave up her motherhood right in order to let her child live. The behavior of these two political parties with the Palestinian cause is exactly the same as the fake mother's behavior. Let the child be torn, and let each party hang on to whatever remains they can. There are numerous testimonies regarding the behavior of the two essential Palestinian forces, ever since the latest legislative elections which granted Hamas the majority of the seats in the legislative Council, as well as the negotiations over forming a government of national unity, the armed invasion of the Islamic movement on the Gaza strip, and the dismissal of Fatah from the Gaza Strip which created two independent governments, one in Gaza and another in Ramallah, where each government aims at irritating the other and grips to the remains of the authority. However, the Goldstone Commission report and Egypt's attempt to accomplish reconciliation while reassembling the torn pieces between Gaza and Ramallah has validated, once again, the attitude of the fake mother. According to the international report of the South African judge, Richard Goldstone, regarding the war on Gaza, both Israeli soldiers and Hamas militants committed crimes against humanity by targeting civilians during the conflict. The report consequently condemns such kind of wars in which civilians have to pay the price, especially when the war takes place in the most tragic and calamitous sector due to the reign of Hamas and the Israeli aggressions. On another hand, the reconciliation sponsored by Cairo aims at putting an end to the two governments in Gaza and Ramallah and at retrieving simultaneously the unity of the Palestinian authority and territory. It is not a secret that the details, conditions, and counter-conditions have blurred the achievement of this goal and turned it into a fight over gaining shares in the new authority, which comes as a result of the reconciliation. The Ramallah authority agreed on postponing the referral of the Goldstone report to the Security Council, while ignoring the true meaning of the accusation in the report and how it is beneficial to the Palestinian cause, and even to the enmity with Hamas. The decision was most probably taken to satisfy another side, which could be the United States, in order to preserve its relation with the authority and to maintain its position as the dialoguing party. As for Hamas, it also had reservations on the report as soon as it was issued, and focused solely on the decision of postponing it and not on its content, which condemns it along with Israel. The behavior of Hamas intends to show that its opponent the PA and Fatah are traitors for giving up on the Palestinian cause, and thus gain more cards in the battle with them. In both ways the right of the Palestinians is lost by condemning those who practiced terrible violations against them and wasted the golden opportunity of waging a diplomatic battle with guaranteed results regarding the condemnation of the barbaric behavior in the war against Gaza, and perhaps to prevent any potential resurgence of such wars. Furthermore, the stance on the reconciliation is also spurred by motives, the most extreme of which would be to abandon what each party considers as being their natural right. The Goldstone report is consequently nothing but the perfect excuse for Hamas to give up on its commitment to sign on time; besides, Fatah's insistence on signing is nothing more than an opportunity to condemn the Islamic movement by blaming it for having rejected the reconciliation. Either way, the main objectives of the reconciliation are wasted along with the necessity of unifying voices and the land in Palestine in the face of the worst Israeli scenarios. Moreover, none of the two opposing Palestinian political parties behaved as the child's real mother in the legend of King Solomon's verdict; they have however adopted the fake's mother behavior who does not care for the life of her child and prefers to keep instead the remains of his body for any price…
