What a Lebanese Hezbollah official said in regard to the party's participation in the fighting in Syria alongside the regime, does not only reveal the nature of the relationship which this party wants its supporters – overwhelmingly Shiites – to have with the Lebanese state, but also the nature of the relationship the Syrian regime wants for its supporters with the Syrian state. Denominational-political belonging has become the motherland, after it included the “most honorable people." And those outside this belonging can only be accepted in this motherland if they relinquish their legal and constitutional citizenship. This is what the party is asking from all the Lebanese who want to earn its recognition, i.e. to turn away from the motherland and support its fight alongside the members of its sect outside Lebanon's internationally-recognized border. The issue at this level is not just about the action of a limited number of people carrying out a mission which the party wishes to implement abroad or a mere operation which the command can deny or attribute to undisciplined or infiltrated elements. It is about military troops directly affiliated with the party and taking orders from its central command in the context of a joint operations room. Whether those whom the party is claiming to be fighting to defend in Syria are Lebanese or carry another nationality, whether they are Shiites or belong to another sect and whether they are being attacked and displaced or are the ones attacking others, all of this does not deny a basic fact related to the party's behavior and the confirmation of its responsibility as a party for the protection of specific people on the legal and security levels. By doing so, Hezbollah is ripping them from their state, which should be assuming this responsibility and handling this protection. The party is saying it is protecting the Shiites, while in Lebanon, it is ripping them away from their Lebanese homeland and leading them towards denominational nationalism, which gives the party's positions towards all the events in the region completely different meanings, especially when pointing to the status of the Shiites in the Gulf in general. Indeed, it is ripping them away from their Gulf environment and placing them in the denominational homeland, thus establishing a new nationalism on the regional level based on an infighting that will definitely generate dangerous repercussions affecting coexistence between the components of the constitutional and legal nation. It is no secret, especially not to Hezbollah and its reference Iran, that the Shiites constitute a minority in the Arab region, and that regardless of the mobilization and arming being carried out, it will never be able to subjugate the others. This is especially true following the exposure of the Syrian regime experience in power during the last four decades. Hence, Hezbollah's policy in Syria is becoming a turning point at the level of the sectarian divide and the threat, primarily to the Arab Shiites, on the long run. In parallel, all the political maneuvers being used by the party in Lebanon are being exposed, thus toppling the meanings of the famous equation based on which the party is still satisfied with the quality of the political formula in Lebanon, i.e. the Army, People, Resistance equation. The party, which neither recognizes the Lebanese homeland, nor its state, nor the role of its army, is turning Lebanon into a mere military base for it, independently from the state and its apparatuses which include the army and are the only ones assigned to protect the Lebanese. This is altering the role of the resistance in the aforementioned equation, which is that of facing Israel, into one of involvement in fighting on the Arab scene based sectarian foundations. As for the great Arab concerns over the Iranian dealings with the Arabs, the actions being carried out in some Arab states that are accusing Tehran of being behind them, and the escalation of the authority in Iraq vis-à-vis the demands of the Sunnis, they are a mere reflection of the new task of the resistance.
