Moscow and Beijing… Shame and Disgrace!
Published in AL HAYAT on 06 - 02 - 2012

The kidnapping of families, assassinations, arbitrary arrests, the slaughtering of children, blood, limbs and corpses of innocent people, genocide and daily massacres, a bloody regime with an appetite for killing, destruction and torture, criminal gangs, death spread on the streets, destruction of homes over the heads of their inhabitants, the besieging of Syrian cities and towns with tanks and aircrafts and a regime committing crimes and murders against the innocent citizens day and night. All these practices failed to move the Russians and Chinese who gave up on the Arab people and presented a certificate of abandonment to humanity.
In Syria, there is a police state being run by a party that knows no mercy or humanity, but is nowadays faced by strong men capable of defeating the vampires. In Syria, there are patriotic and courageous men who know how to pick the grapes of freedom and etch the defeat of the thugs and the veto.
Thirty years ago, in February 1982, the regime of Hafez al-Assad committed the Hama massacre whose bloodiness exceeded the Israeli massacres. Last Friday, the Syrians recalled the massacre of the father (Hafez) and witnessed a new one carried out by his son Bashar against Homs and its people. It is as though Hama, Homs and Daraa among others are meant to live under the criminality and massacres of a regime claiming innocent lives with showers of bullets.
Last Friday, Hama saw the staging of the largest demonstration in Syria against Bashar al-Assad's regime which is killing women, slaughtering children and torturing the detainees, while attempting to impose obedience on the cities and the population by use of force and the spread of death throughout the country.
This authority forgot that Hama did not die in the first massacre when Hafez al-Assad made it swim in a sea of blood. Hama, Homs and the remaining Syrian cities that are rebelling will continue to constitute a symbol of struggle and will continue to raise the freedom and dignity banner in defiance of the regime.
On Hama's commemoration, the ‘Asi River took on the color of blood and etched a story of revolution and struggle. Blood never stopped flowing in the veins of the Hama population and Syria's free men throughout 30 years. It is a journey of freedom, justice and human dignity.
The Security Council's action is slow and obstructed by the veto, at a time when the number of victims is mounting by the day. As to the Russian and Chinese positions, they are shameful and disgraceful. Moscow and Beijing are insisting on dancing over the corpses without any regard for the massacres committed by Al-Assad's regime. Hence, Vladimir Putin and his likes will go to the trash bin of history, while pursued by the curses of angry Arab populations and the shouts of the free. This is due to the fact that whoever does not support the ending of the bloodshed and is not moved by any concerns for human life, deserves nothing but curses and exclusion. What is expected from the Russian and Chinese people is to act and stand against the veto that is offering a “license to kill.” They must therefore pressure their governments into discontinuing their support to Al-Assad's regime and stop dealing with thousands of dead as though they were mere numbers and cards in the game of interests and influence (although I doubt this will happen)!
The Syrian regime practiced decadence, brutality and filthy acts against humanity, after it slaughtered newborns, women and its own people like sheep!
The signs of victory are imminent, no matter how hard Bashar tries to hold on to power, how much he tries to liquidate his people and exclude his oppositionists through Moscow's and Beijing's veto, and how much he tries to stay in his post. He will not be able to do so as long as the people have decided to topple him and are awaiting the right moment to inflict their sanctions on him.
The governmental troops are witnessing daily dissent and the number of dissidents has reached 2,000 elements who are now working with the Free Army. There are brigades operating in Rif Damascus that have started arresting some Iranians and affiliates with the regime's thugs. It is the duty of the men of the Free Syrian Army to eradicate fear, put on the hat of freedom and dignity and carry the slogan of the toppling of Bashar's regime. Moreover, the officers and soldiers who have dissented from the army and the security forces must work together to prevent the regime from committing new massacres, through the establishment of safe areas from which the confrontations with the regime's forces would be run.
The Arab states for their part can oust Damascus' ambassadors as it was done by Tunisia, pressure Moscow via economic, commercial and diplomatic channels and work fast to help the Syrian people on the humanitarian and relief levels. Moreover, the Arab states must recognize the National Council as the representative of the Syrian people and urge the Syrian opposition to come together and form a real alliance including all the sects, considering that the regime will try – until the last moment – to lead the country toward sectarian infighting and civil war, a thing against which the people should beware and which they must avoid.
Let us recall that prior to the Arab Spring, the Arab populations used to curse the dictatorial and murderous regimes in secret. But after they sniffed the smell of freedom, they were liberated, started cursing them in public and toppled the leaders of tyranny. This stands as proof for the psychological uprising against fear and the insistence on seeing future national participation without succumbing to the rifles and prisons of the despots, regardless of the cost.
What is certain is that Bashar al-Assad's stay in power is impossible and that the killers will be killed. As to the solution which will quickly eliminate the regime, it lies in internal and not in external power, and that is being seen right now.
