At the beginning of this year, the dreams of Sarah Palin to become the president of the United States died and were buried. However, we lived and so did she to see her dreams rise up again in a quasi magical manner. She is on the list of the republican competitors for the nomination for the post of president right behind Mitt Romney, and ahead of Tim Pawlenty, Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, and Jon Huntsman. Officially, Palin has not made up her mind yet. However, she is acting like a candidate every day. She lately started a bus trip starting from Washington to visit the eastern regions of the country. The trip is to end in New Hampshire, which is an important state, because it will witness the first vote between the contestants for nomination for the post of president on February 14 of the upcoming year. The launching of the trip coincided with a traditional motor bike festival for the veterans in Washington. Palin and her family joined the festival on three bikes. However, the organizers objected to her presence as people might think that they [i.e. the veterans] support her for president. They also prevented her from making a speech. This was a mistake if compared to the disaster that took place at the beginning of the year. Back then, the Arizona massacre took place where six persons were killed and twelve others were injured. In addition, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords sustained a head injury and nearly died. It then turned out that Palin had earlier attacked her and placed her in the fire line. This pushed Giffords to object and to say that this action will have repercussions. Palin recently returned to Arizona where she purchased a large house. This caused many observers to say that she will probably participate in the battle for nomination: Arizona, as a base for political work, is closer than Alaska. Will Palin vanquish the other candidates when some of them are much more experienced, smarter, and less likely to make mistakes than she is? I personally do not think so, because the elections will take place around one and a half years from now and Palin will commit errors, mistakes, and blatant sins before the conference of the republican party is held on the 3rd, 7th, and 9th of July in order to select the party's candidate. In addition, the party's elements neither like nor support her. They consider her to be a controversial element within the party and she did attack them. However, she is still famous and 92 percent of the Americans know her name. This month, a movie will be released to tackle the story of her work as the governor of Alaska. Nevertheless, those who know her say that she is arrogant and that she only cares about herself. Moreover, the director of her former electoral campaign claimed that the glasses she uses are only an ornament or that they aim at making her look intellectual, because she has had a laser operation and fixed her eyesight. Readers have perhaps noticed that the list of the republican competitors running for presidency which I selected at the beginning includes another woman, Michelle Bachmann, who represents the state of Minnesota at the Congress. This year's opinion polls indicated that 58 percent of the Americans are familiar with her name. Palin had tried her luck for the post of vice president and she will probably keep on working for the post of president next year. Bachmann might accept to be the candidate for the post of the vice president. I have read her name along with that of Jon Huntsman, as a candidate for presidency, in addition to the rightist MP Paul Ryan. What is the common point between Palin and Bachmann? Both are rightists and they both belong to the Tea party. This is a known thing. However, I discovered, while reviewing their political work in the past years, that the other common characteristic to both of them is committing errors time after time. The readers must have followed on Palin's errors during her nomination for the post of vice president. I am in possession of two books that carry her funny mistakes. I can tell you that she has not learned anything from them. Indeed, I read a few days ago the script of a show called “checking the facts” that is filmed by the Washington Post. I was attracted by the headline which read that Palin lies more than Pinocchio. The show documented over twenty statements of hers, some of which were complete lies, while others were half true at best. Bachmann is competing with Palin to do wrong things. She is originally a tax lawyer. When she was commenting on Obama's speech concerning the unity's status, she looked at the wrong camera and her eye twitched as usual. I found out that the Political Facts website has collected false statements of hers which outnumber those of Palin. These statements are either complete lies or they include some portions of truth. She once praised a town for playing a major part in the American history while she was actually in a different town carrying the same name. I believe these two ladies are not lying on purpose. They are rather making mistakes. The American presidency needs a professional liar. While reviewing the material for my column in the past three days, I read an opinion stating that politicians who tell the truth are actually making a mistake. [email protected]
