Ayoon wa Azan (Leadership Is in the Hands of … the Mentally and Humanly Retarded)
Published in AL HAYAT on 08 - 06 - 2009

The Republican Party in the US (nicknamed the GOP, i.e. the acronym of Grand Old Party), is suffering after eight lean years of the Bush administration and is left without a well-known leader that can get it out of the hole it had dug for itself. Its popularity is at the bottom 20% against Obama's popularity, which enjoys the top 60% despite the acute financial crisis.
The party of Dwight Eisenhower and George H. W. Bush is only left with symbols such as extreme right-wing clowns who host radio and TV programs. Their common denominator is anger at the new president, the Democratic Party, the Liberals, the Left, the Catholic Church, Islam, Muslims, immigrants, abortion supporters, and perhaps the entire outside world.
The names may not be familiar to Arab readers, but people like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, and Glenn Beck are more famous than John McCain and Sarah Palin, and definitely more successful.
Limbaugh signed last year an eight-year contract that is worth $400 million, of which a hundred million is remuneration upon signature with a guarantee of a $10 million yearly salary increase throughout the contract period. In return, he would launch daily radical campaigns through 600 radio stations, with salaries of all being worth millions and their ideas being worth cents.
Foolishness makes Limbaugh attack immigrants, demand to stop immigration, and order existing immigrants not to wave the flags of their countries of origin, with the threat of expulsion.
This attitude goes beyond racism as the United States is the first immigration country in the world, and had it not been for immigration, the red Indians would have preserved their country.
Hannity supported water torture and said he was willing to experience it as part of a charity event.
As for O'Reilly, he once said that if the Americans entered Iraq and toppled Saddam Hussein, and if it turned out that he was innocent and did not have anything (in terms of weapons of mass destruction), he would apologize to the American people and would never believe the Bush administration after that. However, he forgot what he had said, believed that administration, and still defends it to date and after its unregrettable departure.
The radio and TV stars from the Republican Party, mostly those working for Fox News, do not pause before realities, statistics, and information. They do not believe that the environment is threatened and that the climate temperature is on the increase. Glenn Beck says that environment defenders want American citizens to believe that if they drive an SUV, the temperature will rise by 6 degrees. Beck started to work for Fox News around the beginning of the year and is believed by 2.9 million Americans even when he accuses Barack Obama of turning the United States into a Third World country - although he has only been in power for four months and will spend four years repairing the damage caused by Bush whom he considers a hero.
Perhaps the most despicable one in the group is Michael Savage, a Jew from New York whose original family name is Weiner.
British Interior Minister Jacqui Smith put Savage's name in a list of 22 persons who are banned from Britain. Among them are people fomenting hatred, famous racists in Europe and America, gay opponents, and terror suspects including Savage who is described as a right-wing radical fomenting hatred. Radio hosts like Savage are called Shock Jock, the shock here being Savage's lot before being the listeners'.
Savage has 10 million listeners across 250 radio stations. He replied to Smith with attributes like "lunatic", "witch", "monster", "Bolshevik", and "lowlife", although if he had risen from the sewers, he would not have reached her shoes. He decided to sue her for defamation for having linked him "with skinheads or those who kill people in Russia, [or with] Hamas murderers who kill Jews on buses."
Israel kills women and children in buses, houses, streets, and on the shore, while Hamas men are noble fighters in the face of Israel's Nazism that Savage is defending.
This dissolute man once assaulted Muslims with words I cannot refer to even by insinuation. Had a Muslim used the same words to describe the Jews and their faith, he would have been the target of an endless campaign. Savage assaulted the Catholic Church for offering care to Hispanic immigrants and said it is "rotten from top to bottom."
What is corrupt in American politics is the Republican Party. Its ship has no captain, and leadership is in the hands of mentally and humanely retarded media clowns.
