Ayoon Wa Azan (Who Will Catch Assange First?
Published in AL HAYAT on 17 - 12 - 2010

I expected Time Magazine to select Julian Assange as Man of the Year. He was no doubt on the magazine's list. But in the end, Time chose Mark Zuckerberg instead, the founder of Facebook. While no one in the world this year was more famous or more influential that the founder of WikiLeaks, Assange is currently facing nothing short of a war by the American administration, which is seeking to arrest him and prosecute him on counts of espionage. He also faces a campaign by the Israel gang, and counts of rape involving two women in Sweden.
In the United States, Eric Holder, the Attorney General (the equivalent of the Minister of Justice), said that his department is considering prosecuting Assange on charges of espionage under the U.S. federal Espionage Act of 1917.
However, experts say that with regards to the WikiLeaks documents, Assange was a third party recipient, having received the diplomatic cables from U.S. Army Private First Class Bradley Manning. They also stress that all cases brought under the 1917 Act have failed to secure a conviction against third parties, such as the case with The New York Times and The Washington Post and other newspapers that published the Pentagon Papers on the Vietnam War. Daniel Ellsberg, the person who leaked the documents, however, was prosecuted and put on trial, while the administration did not attempt to charge the newspapers with anything.
This then happened again a few years ago when the spy Lawrence Franklin was tried and convicted after handing over classified documents to two operatives in the AIPAC lobby, Stephen Rosen and Keith Weissman, who were tried but whom the prosecutors did not succeed in having convicted.
The Israeli side in the leaks did not receive the attention it deserves, as we all focused on the Arab side. However, what caught my attention was the fact that several Likudnik members of Congress known for their allegiance to Israel called for the leaks to be stopped and for Assange to be put on trial, such as Rep. Peter King and Senator Joe Lieberman, who put pressure on the website Amazon to suspend its hosting of WikiLeaks; Amazon eventually caved in.
The few cables leaked by WikiLeaks on Israel prove something we have always said about Israel, namely, that the Hebrew state is wholly the equivalent of a gang of organized crime. Or they prove that one cannot separate the government and career criminals from one another, because individuals involved in both areas often exchange roles, and the crimes committed by both are one and the same.
In a U.S. diplomatic cable dated 15/5/2009, it was stated that Zvika Ben Shabat, Yaacov Avitan, and Tzuri Roka requested visas near March 2009 to attend a security-related convention in Las Vegas. But according to the local media, all three had involvement with organized crime. The embassy asked them to provide police reports for any criminal records. However, they did not return to the embassy. Nevertheless, it is known that many Israeli career criminals hold valid tourist visas to the United States.
I was also impressed by the penchant of the diplomat who wrote the cable for journalism, as he chose "Israel, A Promised Land for Organized Crime?" as the title of his correspondence.
The cables also show that Zvika Ben Shabat is the President of "H.A.Sh Security Group," an Israeli company that offers security services worldwide. The company signed an agreement with India's giant Micro-Technologies, which develops wiretapping and surveillance systems across many countries. It all becomes even more interesting when we learn that the Chairman of H.A.Sh Security is Major General Dan Ronen, who was Commander of the Northern Region in the Israeli police (I hope that Hezbollah will read this), and was also responsible for leading and commanding the overall forces and systems during the second Lebanon War. Also according to one of the cables, he is an expert in combat against terrorism and suicide bombers.
In another cable, the U.S. Embassy demands that those involved in organized crime in Israel must be prevented from obtaining U.S. visas, given what is known about their crimes and operations.
I would say that the Israeli government itself is a gang of organized crime. I wrote in the past, prior to all the leaks by WikiLeaks, and say again today, that those who want to start a local or international gang of organized crime, will not find more seasoned criminals willing to kill than the members of Likud, Shas and Yisrael Beiteinu. Those would teach the Mafia itself the fundamentals of crime.
Finally, there are the rape charges in Sweden. I do not see a conspiracy there, but rather recklessness on Julian Assange's part along with feminine scheming. What is established is that Assange copulated with Anna Ardin, and attended a party with her on the next day, and also copulated with Sophia Wilen twice at her home. The problems only started when each of the two women learned that he slept with the other, after which they filed a complaint with the police. The prosecution investigated the matter, but dismissed the charges, at which point Assange left the country. However, the complaint was reopened, and the prosecution filed charges again and requested that Assange be apprehended; Assange then ended up before a court in Britain.
The question now is who will catch Assange first? Will it be the U.S administration, the Israel gang, or the two women in Sweden?
