Tripartite Strife
Published in AL HAYAT on 04 - 11 - 2010

The new attack of Al-Qaeda organization and all its branches, from Iraq to Europe, toppled all the talk which has been spreading optimism for more than a year in regard to the scattering of the movement and the harsh blows addressed to its cells and leaders. Today, the world and the region are facing an attack of defiance, the most serious facet of which being the fact that it is provoking the leaders of the West into responding to it. It is also combining two goals: the first is the fueling of sectarian strife starting from Iraq and the sparking of sectarian strife around the region, and the second is the striking of the Christian West to lead it toward hostile activities in the Islamic world.
The pretext must be the dispatch of Special Forces as it was leaked by American reports, in order to help with the fight against the organization of “Al-Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula” on Yemeni soil, i.e. the land from which the conspiracy of the booby-trapped packages was set up and followed by other packages sent to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
In the context of “reminding” Europe and America – which were part of the bank of targets of the packages - about September 11, it does not matter that a few recall Merkel's call upon her citizens around two weeks ago to grow accustomed to the sight of mosques in their daily lives, because the Muslim community was real and Germany could not relinquish their role at the level of the activation of the economic wheel. The suspected package found in the Chancellor's office was thus enough to annihilate all calls for coexistence with Muslims, most of whom have become part of the country's social fabric and work machine as it is the case in many West European states.
The author of the “message” of the booby-trapped packages did not send it to the wrong address, considering that the goal is to booby-trap coexistence between the Europeans and the Muslim residents, in order to lure the West into a retaliation that would fuel hatred with and toward the Islamic world. This would consequently lead to the birth of dozens of extremist Yemeni groups similar to the neo-Nazis, at a time when Al-Qaeda would be injecting additional charges in the mobilization in the face of the “Crusade against the Muslims.”
It is thus the attack of the new generation of Al-Qaeda, or its sleeper cells, which surpassed its “fathers” by choosing a war on two fronts, i.e. with both Europe and America to bring the West nine years back – if Al-Qaeda turns out to be truly involved – and lead it once again into the nightmare of September 11. This time however, this is being done by threatening the lives of the leaders to prepare the scene for a confrontation between two worlds and a religious war that is wanted by extremist groups on both ends. In this context, the attack on Our Lady of Salvation in Baghdad is one of the branches of the same front, while Al-Qaeda's transformation of all the Christians and their institutions into a target aims at creating a “one-color front,” thus implicating the Coptic Church to spread panic among Egypt's Christians after Iraq's Christians. The scenario of displacement and counter-displacement seems to be a key tool in the developed method of the “sleeper cells” generation, although the pretext is the same and is related to claims of protecting the Muslims and their rights.
Once again, the new facts –the plot of the booby-trapped packages and the massacre perpetrated against innocent civilians in Our Lady of Salvation Church – push us to expect the worst for the Muslims, and it is enough at this level to see Yemen sanctioned and boycotted by European airports. As for the other facet of the sanctions, it will be represented by additional control over Muslims in the West and the limitation of their freedoms, at a time when the Christian right-wing fundamentalists who have been accusing them of destroying the freedoms of the West will be lurking them.
If there is fear of seeing the transfer of the Pakistani model to Yemen under the pretext of protecting American national security from the plans of Al-Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula, the fact remains that the explosions which targeted Shiite neighborhoods in Baghdad following the Church massacre are reviving sectarian strife in Iraq to spread it throughout the region. And if this reaches its other dimension with the eruption of sectarian strife in Egypt, all the aspects of the tunnel which everyone is wanted to be led into will be completed.
The paradox at this level is that the number one enemy of the Arab states, i.e. Israel - which is seeking the Jewish identity as one color for its racism - has fallen in a permanent state of relaxation despite all the commotion it is raising over the imminent threats. On the other hand, the bloody strikes in Iraq are only targeting Iraqis, whether they are Christians, Shiites or Sunnis and while the Americans are safe in their bases.
What is certain is that the booby-trapping of the region would not have succeeded had its states been able to settle their internal problems and dry up the sources of terrorism. The biggest source at this level is definitely Israel, and it will be upheld as long as America is proceeding with its methods which made up the lie of the protection of the Jewish “victim,” believed it and has become its hostage.
