Ayoon Wa Azan (Will the History of Iraq Be Repeated in Iran?)
Published in AL HAYAT on 06 - 09 - 2010

I gave myself and the readers a truce after the previous episodes on this subject, which is that of the violations of American policies on the eve of the Iraq war. Today, these violations have returned again, this time with Iran, through the same war cabal and right-wing think tanks, and also the media that finds itself divided between silence and complicity. The men who were supposed to end up standing before the international war crimes tribunal for their role in killing one million Iraqis and Muslims, along with thousands of American youths, and destroying the economy of the United States and of the rest of the world, are repeating today claims about Iran that they made in 2002 about Iraq; that it is a threat to world peace, that it threatens Israel, and that it has ties to al-Qaeda and to international terrorism.
Today, there is no other terrorist state in the world but Israel. However, this is not the subject today. The issue instead is that the Israel lobby and the Likudniks in and around the administration who advocate for a permanent war are the same, as though we are before the project of the New American Century of 1997, which was led by Bill Kristol – the same and the only. In a letter signed by this group's members on 26/1/1998 and addressed to President Clinton, they urged the latter to wage war against Iraq. A similar letter was addressed to the dimwitted president George W. Bush on 20/9/2001, and the names that signed both letters are in their majority Likudnik Jewish Americans. There can be no justice in this world until these individuals are prosecuted as war criminals.
The names in question today are those same names. Bill Kristol is currently the chief editor of The Weekly Standard, the mouthpiece of neoconservatives, and where Tom Rose writes, who is a former publisher of the Jerusalem Post. Rose, along with Gary Bauer, a Zionist Christian missionary, and the friend of Kristol and his partner in the project for the New American Century, founded the so-called ‘Keep Israel Safe' group.
The problem is that Israel cannot remain safe unless Iraqis were killed, Iran was destroyed, and the Likudniks dominated the Middle East, especially the oil-producing countries.
Thus, we find that Bauer rejects the two-state solution in Palestine, and that Rose was expelled from his Israeli newspaper for his extremism although he had right-wing inclinations. A former publisher of the newspaper, Bret Stephens, had the following to say about Rose's dismissal, “So many of us have been waiting for this day, and fighting for it. [Tom has damaged the newspaper's] reputation, business relationships, morale…. with Tom gone, we can begin to address our problems in a rational and purposeful way.”
Rose filed a lawsuit against Stevens and lost. However, he continued to be an extremist. He started the so-called America's Voices for Israel, which takes radio and television hosts to Israel and defend its crimes. Meanwhile, his publication, The Weekly Standard, has a blog entitled “Stop Iran Now”, a project by the so called Citizens United. This latter group's title masks a history of extremism, to the extent at which the head of this group David Bossie had been fired as an investigator for the Republicans, by Newt Gingrich himself. Gingrich is in turn an extremist, and has taken it upon himself to stand against the construction of an Islamic center near Ground Zero.
Kristol says that he represents the pro-Israel groups, such as the Emergency Committee for Israel, which is involved with confronting the campaign to delegitimize the racist and criminal state.
Then there is the ‘Foreign Policy Initiative', which brings together former officials in the Bush administration, whom I insist must be tried as war criminals. In their first public action, they attacked Rep. Joe Sestak because he condemned Israel over the Gaza war and accused it of Nazi practices, and refused to sign a letter in support of Israel. It seems that they are trying to stifle any opposition against Israel.
I noticed that Kristol and Bauer are both members of this initiative, along with Rachel Abrams, the wife of Elliott Abrams who was appointed by George W. Bush as the Director on the National Security Council for Near East and North African Affairs, and was like the metaphorical fox in the chicken coop. Rachel descends from an extremism Jewish American family, and is the daughter of Midge Decter, who married Norman Podhoretz, John's father. All these individuals advocated for a war on Iraq, and they now want to wage war against Iran in service of Israel, at the expense of American lives. Their names were all mentioned in my book on them.
Since the book was published, Irving Kristol, the godfather of neoconservatives and Bill's father, has died. William Safire has also died, and the world was ridded of his evil. However, the other names are still around, and continue to seek death and destruction. There is also a complicit media. The influence of this gang must thus be never underestimated, and the Citizens United group won a case before the Supreme Court against the Federal Electoral Commission, on the pretext that the First Amendment to the Constitution grants the companies the right to fund ads during election campaigns, something that gives money a swing vote.
Will the history of Iraq repeat itself with Iran? I used to believe that history repeats itself after decades, not years, with the crime still ongoing and the criminals known to all.
