Police say an unknown number of fans have been wounded while rushing a field in Cairo to attack a referee during an African Champions League match on Saturday, according to AP. Zamalek and Tunisian visitor Club Africain were at 1-1 when the referee waived off a Zamalek goal for offside three minutes into injury time. Police say that prompted thousands among the 60,000-strong crowd to storm the field, leading to injuries, and players also fought each other. Police say they intervened to help the ref, who immediately canceled the match. Africain advanced to the quarterfinals of the African Champions League a 5-3 winner on aggregate. Football matches have only just resumed in Egypt after they were suspended in February owing to the mass demonstrations that ultimately overthrew the former president Hosni Mubarak.
