Floods and mudslides triggered by heavy rains have killed at least 35 people this week in southern Thailand, officials said Saturday. The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department said it had confirmed 35 dead, all Thai nationals, with the most deaths reported in Nakorn Si Thammarat province where 15 people died in floods caused by rains that have pummeled the coastline of the Gulf of Thailand since last weekend. The island's airport and ferry service were closed down between Sunday and Tuesday, but resumed operations Wednesday.
