India on Tuesday reported 16,432 new cases of the virus, taking its total up to 10.22 million confirmed infections and 148,153 deaths. The country has the second-highest case load in the world, behind only the United States. Health authorities expect to start a vaccination drive for some 300 million people early next month. Russia reported 27,002 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, including 5,641 in Moscow, taking the total to 3,105,037 since the pandemic began. Authorities also reported 562 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the official death toll to 55,827. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 12,892 to 1,664,726 and the reported death toll rose by 852 to 30,978, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Tuesday. Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
