US President Obama today said the economy hasn't caught up to the new reality that women now make up about half of the workforce. In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama said that women earn about 77 cents for every dollar men earn. He added women face outdated policies that hold them back, and that hurts their families and the broader economy. The US president began his statements by repeating one of the more prominent talking points of the Obama administration since this year's State of the Union address: "A woman deserves to earn equal pay for equal work." The president insisted that it was necessary for Congress to "act on these priorities" for women, but only provided one specific on which he wanted Congress to act: raising the minimum wage. Obama is calling in Congress to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour. In the GOP address, Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan said there's an economic comeback in states led by Republican governors. He said it can happen nationally if the country follows their lead.
