A group of students from the UK won $50,000 as the first-place winners of the Microsoft Imagine Cup innovation competition with their mobile phone application “soundSYNK.” The app creates impromptu social networks that allow people to stream music simultaneously through a group of phones, effectively creating a symphony of speakers. Teams from the Arab world put in a poor showing in this, the 11th year of the competition. Only a team from Egypt managed to place in any of the 14 award categories.
