LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Disgraced official Patrick John has dropped his appeal against a two-year FIFA ban in the Caribbean bribery case involving Mohamed Bin Hammam. The Court of Arbitration for Sport said it canceled a hearing scheduled next Monday after John, the former prime minister of Dominica, withdrew his appeal. FIFA's ethics committee banned John and fined him 3,000 Swiss francs (then $3,300) in Nov. 2011, in a final round of sanctions for Caribbean officials caught in the conspiracy. FIFA never specified what John is accused of doing. Bin Hammm allegedly offered $40,000 cash payments to voters. — Reuters
