A strong quake struck off the southern coast of Indonesia's Java island early Monday, but officials said there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The quake, measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale, prompted a tsunami warning with officials telling residents to stay away from shorelines. But the alert was lifted more than an hour later after no tidal waves materialized. The quake's epicentre was in the Indian Ocean, about 293 kilometres south-west of Cilacap in Central Java and 437 kilometers south-east of Jakarta, said Indonesia's Meteorology, Geophysics and Climatology Agency (BMKG). It struck at 3:06 am (2006 GMT Sunday) at a depth of 10 kilometres, the agency was quoted as saying by DPA.
